Located in the wooded acres of Ellanor C. Lawrence Park, Cabell's Mill has long been a unique setting for social occasions. Built prior to 1800 and operated as a mill until 1916, the property was purchased in 1935 by Ellanor Lawrence. She and her husband, David, founder of US News & World Report, transformed the old mill into a guest house and hosted many Washington notables, including Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt. Today, Cabell's Mill offers a spacious room with hardwood floors, deep window sills and a working fireplace. On the lower level is a smaller room with an antique buffet table and fireplace, while outside an expansive terrace overlooks Big Rocky Run. The mill provides a beautiful secluded setting for many special occasions.

The Dulles Expo is located just six miles south of Washington Dulles International Airport, this 100,000 square foot facility offers over 1,200 FREE parking spaces on-site.

This 18th century farm offers a hands-on, living-history look into what life was like on a working-class farm before the American Revolution.

Built in 1824, Dranesville Tavern was one of five taverns located near the Dranesville Crossroads. It quickly found a steady flow of regular customers among many farmers and drovers moving grain and livestock from Leesburg and western Virginia to the ports of Alexandria and Georgetown. In 1865, the Alexandria Gazette described Dranesville Tavern as "one of the finest roadside inns in the State of Virginia." That tradition of excellence continues today at this beautifully restored Virginia Historic Landmark, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The building, complimented by a rolling meadow and wooded stream valley, offers six rooms and large country porch.

George Washington, commander in chief of American forces in the Revolutionary War and the first president of the United States, called Mount Vernon home for more than 40 years. George Washington and his wife Martha Washington lived at Mount Vernon, which is now the most popular historic estate in America. Situated along the Potomac River in Northern Virginia, Mount Vernon is just 16 miles south of Washington, D.C. Today, guests to Mount Vernon can visit the Mansion, more than a dozen original structures, Washington’s Tomb, and nearly 50 acres of his extensive plantation. The estate also includes a working blacksmith shop and the Pioneer Farm, a 4-acre demonstration farm with a reconstructed slave cabin and 16-sided treading barn.

An 18th century, Georgian-style mansion, Gunston Hall was the home of George Mason, the author of Virginia's Declaration of Rights.

The park offers a wide array of activities, scenic vistas, historic sites and walking trails to interest the casual visitor or the true Civil War historian. A good place to begin your visit is the Henry Hill Visitor Center. Pick up a park brochure, map, trail guides and check out the daily schedule of interpretive programs.

An oasis of the past, Sully reflects the history of Fairfax County. Completed in 1799 by Richard Bland Lee, the main house at Sully combines aspects of Georgian and Federal architecture. Richard Bland Lee was Northern Virginia's first Representative to Congress, as well as General Robert E. Lee's uncle. On the National Register for Historic Places, and accredited by the American Association of Museums, Sully also includes original outbuildings, representative slave quarter and gardens. Guided tours highlight the early 19th century life of the Richard Bland Lee family, tenant farmers and enslaved African Americans. Programs reflect the history of Fairfax County through the 20th century.

ArtSpace Herndon is a community art gallery created and supported by art lovers in the greater Herndon area providing opportunities for local artists and photographers to exhibit their art, teach classes, and offer workshops. As a gathering place celebrating the arts, ArtSpace Herndon is also a showcase for performers. ArtSpace Herndon attracts artists and performers at local, national, and international levels.

Surrounding Ball's Bluff National Cemetery, this regional park preserves the site of the Battle of Ball's Bluff, the first Civil War engagement to take place in Loudoun County. Hiking trails and interpretive signs aid in understanding this important and tragic part of American history.

For many thousands of people in the local community, fall would not be complete without the annual Fall Festival at Cox Farms. There are three other seasons at Cox Farms Corner Market in Centreville, of course: Our farm greenhouses supply spring bedding plants. Local summer produce is a highlight during July and August. And December brings the finest Fraser firs, seasonal decorations and visits from Santa to Cox Farms. Frying Pan Farm Park is part of the Floris Community in western Fairfax County, known as Frying Pan from 1726 to 1892 when the name was changed to Floris. Today, the park preserves and interprets a 1920s through 1950s farm, agricultural process, rural community life and landscape for the educational, cultural and recreational enrichment of citizens and visitors of Fairfax County.

Walking trails, lakes, more than twenty varieties of cherry trees, irises, peonies, an extensive shade garden, native wildflowers, gazebos, birds, butterflies, seasonal blooms and foliage create a sanctuary of beauty and nature. Conservation and plant diversity displays in the Visitor Center invite guests of all ages to explore the natural world. The Atrium’s indoor tropical garden setting is a popular meeting, reception, wedding and workshop location. Interpretive displays accompany a restored 18th-century cabin. A picnic area beside the Gardens is available to visitors. Visit Meadowlark to watch the exquisite Korean Bell Garden take shape. The Bell Garden will consist of stone terracing and stairs, Korean trees, a meandering path with various reflection stations, and the highlight, the Bell Pavilion and Bell.

NRA National Firearms Museum in Fairfax, Virginia, consists of 15 galleries comprised of 85 exhibit cases housing 3,000 firearms in a 15,000 square foot facility. The Museum details and examines the nearly 700-year history of firearms with a special emphasis on firearms, freedom, and the American experience. Each gallery is evocative of a period of time in American history, from the stockade fort at Jamestown to the gun factories of New England. Life-sized dioramas include a nineteenth-century riflemaker's shop, a trench on the Western Front in WWI, and a shelled-out town square in Normandy in WWII. The firearms tell the stories of how they were used to provide security and sustenance to the early colonists, how they were used to secure our freedom and independence, and have been used ever since to maintain and preserve those liberties. Within the galleries are also tales of exploration, manufacturing, competition, hunting, and recreational shooting sports.

The Friends of the Washington and Old Dominion Trail (FOWOD) is a non-profit citizens organization dedicated to the preservation, enhancement and promotion of a unique recreational resource in northern Virginia: the W&OD trail, a 45-mile multi-use rail-trail that is owned and operated by the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority. The only national park dedicated to presenting the performing arts. No matter what your age or taste in shows, you'll find something you like onstage at Wolf Trap. From May through September, multiple amphitheaters in the park present performances such as musicals, dance, opera, jazz, and popular and country music. Euro Bistro opened its doors in July of 1999. It initially accommodated up to 50 guests. In the summer of 2003, the size of Euro Bistro doubled as the adjacent store moved to a different location. Euro Bistro now can seat up to 100 patrons, and the two dining rooms can easily be separated to allow for the hosting of special events. A Taste of Gourmet History, 1983 was a big year for America. Change was in the air. Reagan and old Bush were leading the country through the Cold War, GI Joe was dating Barbie, teenagers "tight rolled" their pants and slow danced to Total Eclipse of the Heart. For many, 1983 was a confusing, hungry place. People cried out for more, and not just more fondue. It would be a 19-year-old with two first names that would answer America's cry for lunch – Jimmy John Liautaud. Jimmy knew that if he kept it simple he could create the world's greatest gourmet sandwich. With a handful of cookbooks checked out from his local library, Jimmy perfected his award-winning bread. After creating four sandwiches, Jimmy tested them on friends and family, receiving praise he needed to press on. With no hesitation he opened the very first Jimmy John's. Paying a whopping $200 a month in rent, he could afford only used equipment consisting of a refrigerator, a chest freezer, an oven, and a meat slicer.

The building Jimmy's is in is believed to have been built in 1897, and was originally both a Tavern and a General Store. Many tenants and businesses have come and gone since 1897 including a grocery store, sporting goods store, and a butcher shop! Some local residents will tell you the story of Walter, a friendly ghost who resides here at Jimmy's ! After countless hours of planning and renovating, proprietors Jimmy, Maureen, and Kelsey Cirrito opened Jimmy's doors on May 29,1997, and are happy to bring a bit of history back to downtown Herndon -- Jimmy's Old Town Tavern.
