Biographie
H. erlernte vermutlich zunächst das Tischlerhandwerk. Sicherlich brachte er schon aus seiner Heimat orgelbautechnische Fertigkeiten mit, als er 1713 in Freiberg mitG. Silbermann einen Lehrvertrag auf 3 Jahre abschloß. 1718 unterschrieb er gemeinsam mit diesem einen Kontrakt über den Orgelbau in Sankt Georgen zu Rötha bei Leipzig als „Orgel Macher“, war damals also bereits Meister. 1721 setzte er die Langhennersdorfer Orgel, sein Meisterstück, auf, die 1722 eingeweiht wurde. Nachdem 1724 ein Rechtsstreit mit Silbermann geschlichtet war, entstanden 1725-28 die Orgeln in Lengefeld/Erzgebirge (II/22, 1932 umgebaut) und in Sangerhausen, wo H., sicherlich in Zusammenhang mit der Betreuung des Schloßkapellenwerkes zu Sankt Trinitatis, 1730 zum sachsen-weißenfelsischen Hoforgelmacher ernannt wurde. Spätestens seit 1734 war er in Leipzig ansässig, wo er kleinere Aufträge zur EntlastungJohann Scheibes erhielt, als dessen Nachfolger er später (seit 1748) die Leipziger Orgeln betreute. 1735 schlug ihn Bach, jedoch ohne Erfolg, in Mühlhausen/Thüringen für den Orgelbau inB. Mariae Virginis vor. Um 1738 lieferte er eine bedeutsame, an Zungenstimmen reiche Orgeldisposition für die Christiansborg-Schloßkirche in Kopenhagen, die leider nicht ausgeführt wurde. 1743 nahm er mit Bach die neue Scheibe-Orgel zu Sankt Johannis vor Leipzig ab. Seine 3 größten Orgeln baute er in Sankt Wenzel zu Naumburg, vielleicht nach einer Disposition Bachs, in Hettstedt/Südharz (II/31, 1741?-49, Gehäuse erhalten) und in Dresden-Neustadt (II/38, 1754-57, zerstört). Außerdem leitete er 1750-54 die Arbeiten an der Silbermann-Orgel in der Hofkirche in Dresden. Für das Schaffen H.s sind 3 Faktoren bestimmend: die Orgelbautradition seiner schlesischen Heimat, seine Lehrzeit bei Silbermann und seine Zusammenarbeit mitJ. S. Bach. Seine Orgeln sind in ihren Dispositionen bedeutend vielgestaltiger als die Silbermanns, sie weisen, darin an den deutschen Orgelbau des 17. Jahrhunderts erinnernd, zum Teil vollständig ausgebaute Flötenchöre und gute Pedalbesetzung auf. Auch die streichenden Stimmen H.s, vor allem die im Rückpositiv seiner Naumburger Orgel, sind wie seine übrigen Register von hervorragender Klangqualität. H. hat nicht die für Silbermann charakteristische breite Labiierung der Pfeifen übernommen. Er baute wie Silbermann im allgemeinen ohne Rückpositiv. Die Gehäuse dürften in seiner Werkstatt entstanden sein, mit Ausnahme des Naumburger, das er von der Thayßner-Orgel übernahm, und des Dresden-Neustädter, das die TischlerJohann Gottfried Fischer undJohann Christoph Keitel bauten. Die Prospekte der Sangerhäuser und wohl auch der Hettstedter Orgel gestaltete der Permoser-SchülerValentin Schwarzenberger künstlerisch aus.
