American Psycho is heading to a new streaming home to start the new year. Directed by Mary Harron, the movie is led by Christian Bale (who plays Patrick Bateman), alongside Jared Leto (Paul Allen), Justin Theroux (Timothy Bryce), and other stars. It follows Bateman as he devolves from an investment banker into an untethered murderer. Based on Bret Easton Ellis' book, it blended horror and satire to create a compelling killer.
The movie is famous for critiquing toxic masculinity and was officially released in 2000. Director Luca Guadagnino (Challengers) is in the process of developing a new adaptation, reportedly starring Austin Butler in Bale's place. The new production is not intended to remake the original but will instead be a fresh adaptation of the book. Ahead of its release, a new streaming platform is preparing to host the original movie to make it more accessible to potential viewers.
American Psycho disappointed in its debut but quickly found a cult following.

Decades after its release, this movie is more effective than ever. In the wake of social movements like the #MeToo protests, American Psycho continues to cut to the core of a serious social issue. Though it failed to make a splash with its original release, it has since earned renewed attention and a significant level of prominence in the media. Anyone who failed to view the movie in its early years should certainly attempt to enjoy it in 2024 or 2025. Thankfully, American Psycho will be coming to Hulu on January 1, 2025, making that an even simpler prospect.
The meaning of American Psycho is still being argued today. It is rare for a satire to remain so relevant after so long, but Bale's portrayal helped to turn a controversial character into a household name. Bale never holds back during the production, blending humor with horror seamlessly. His over-the-top character is simultaneously terrifying and deeply amusing, creating a discordant atmosphere that plays well into his increasingly dark nature.
Even Bateman's obsession with music makes for a more compelling movie. That enables American Psycho's thrilling soundtrack to exist, which just makes the story more interesting. Nearly everything about this movie has aged well, including its biting satire. Ahead of the remake's release, it is certainly worth watching. Even those who have seen it before should revisit the movie to see just how well it has aged in recent years.
What Screen Rant has said about American Psycho:
The movie adaptation is a blend of grotesque horror and toxic masculinity, with an ending that leaves most watchers wondering whether it was all a part of Patrick Bateman's imagination. Here's why American Psycho is even better in 2022. The film, directed by Mary Harron and written by Guinevere Turner, explores many themes such as toxic masculinity, the wealth divide, white privilege, and sexism. In many ways, these themes are more relevant today. Some movies do get better with age, and while American Psycho is very dated in terms of scenery, dialogue, and setting, the core themes of the film really bring to light issues that plague modern society. - American Psycho Is Better In 2022 Than 2000
